It’s time to release the invisible weight of high-functioning anxiety

High-functioning anxiety rarely looks like panic from the outside. More often, it presents as relentless ambition, over-preparing, and constantly accommodating others to protect yourself from conflict, criticism, or failure.

For many Denver professionals (but especially women, queer folks, and BIPOC individuals) these survival strategies are often praised as "drive." But maintaining a polished exterior while living with chronic internal tension isn't sustainable and leads to emotional burnout and chronic health problems.

Through specialized online anxiety therapy, we peel back the layers of performance-based worth. We’ll examine the unspoken rules you've been living by, release the stress stored in your nervous system, and help you quiet the need to constantly prove your value.

On the inside, high-functioning anxiety often feels like...

  • Orange Illustrated Checkmark

An inner voice that says taking a break (or time off from work) is unproductive or lazy

  • Orange Illustrated Checkmark

Dissecting the tone in texts and emails for hours to make sure no one is disappointed in you

  • Orange Illustrated Checkmark

Holding everything together y at work or in social settings, only to fall apart at home

  • Orange Illustrated Checkmark

Over-preparing for every scenario to prevent making a mistake

  • Orange Illustrated Checkmark

Automatically saying "yes" to everyone's requests at your own expense

  • Orange Illustrated Checkmark

Feeling so disconnected from your own bodily cues that you can't tell what you actually need

As an adult in the queer and BIPOC communities in Denver, you’ve learned to adapt to environments that demand your perfectionism and self-monitoring.

Whether you were born and raised in Denver, or you’re a transplant, you’ve likely absorbed the message that staying safe or valued meant being hyper-capable and accommodating. And if your mental energy is consumed by keeping the peace or managing other people's perceptions, of course doubting your own needs has become an automatic reflex.

Living under that level of vigilance also leads to chronic overthinking, nagging guilt, and a constant fear that letting your guard down will cost you. Let’s ditch the external expectations that were never yours to carry, silence the internal pressure, and build up your self-trust.

What sitting in virtual session with me actually looks like:

I’ll join our virtual session with a minimum of 2 drinks in hand (one Stanley full of ice water and a mug of whatever herbal tea I’m currently obsessed with).

We kick off each session by reviewing where we left off, before we decide what to focus on next. This helps us avoid any fears you might have about doing therapy “wrong” or worrying that your concerns aren’t big enough to bring up.

You can also count on a guest appearance from my service dog, Odin. If you hear gentle snoring in the background, just know he’s co-regulating with us.

My Approach to Online Anxiety Therapy in Denver

Anxiety isn’t all in your head. It’s in your body too! To make sure we address the whole body experience that anxiety brings, we’ll use a blend of techniques to make sure you don’t use time in therapy to get stuck in the same loops you’re trying to get out of. l

Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Parts Work

Instead of treating anxiety as a character flaw to eliminate, Internal Family Systems (IFS) recognizes it as a protective strategy.

High-functioning anxiety is usually driven by overworked internal "parts," like a perfectionist part guarding against criticism, an overachiever part trying to secure your worth, or a people-pleasing part protecting you from conflict.

In session, we meet these parts with curiosity rather than frustration. By understanding the protective roles they've played, we help them step down from high alert which allows you to move away from the impulse to constantly perform.

Addressing Anxiety at the Root with Brainspotting

Traditional talk therapy relies on using the analytical, logic-driven mind, which is the exact area of your brain responsible for overthinking. Online Brainspotting therapy works differently by making use of the observation that where you look affects how you feel.

By identifying precise visual points in your field of vision, we bypass analytical thinking loops and access your subcortical brain (aka the region responsible for emotional processing and memory). Working at the nervous system level allows your body to safely process and discharge lingering tension without needing to overanalyze it.

Spirituality-Informed Practices

I support many of my fellow queer and BIPOC clients with reclaiming their spiritual lives on their terms. Sometimes that looks like exploring values related to spirituality, and other times it may look like pulling some tarot cards together in session for a new perspective on an old story about anxiety.

Here’s what one of my colleagues wants you to know about me

“Halle is such a refreshing breath of energy to engage with as a therapist. Halle is professional, yet deeply relatable. I appreciate Halle's grounded nature, while braiding in supports that many anxiety therapists may not always include in their practice.

Caroline Pegram, LCSW

Weekly anxiety therapy sessions teach you to:

Text image with the words 'START SAYING YES' in bold green letters on a black background.

…to your own preferences without spiraling into shame, existential dread, or guilt.

Text reading 'NAME YOUR NEED' in orange, playful font against a black background.

…without feeling guilty for the ways they’re different from what your family expects them to be.

Text saying 'STOP QUESTIONING' on a black background in olive green letters.

…which beliefs are yours, and which were handed to you from your family or religious upbringing.

Another colleague thinks this is important for you to know too

“Halle is such a compassionate, kind and thoughtful clinician. She is highly skilled in using nontraditional modalities that support you when it feels like anxiety has taken control especially when you work in systems that expect you to be ON at all times.

Your Investment

$250 per session

Paid at the time of each session using your HSA/FSA, credit/debit card.

A note on self-pay therapy:

Paying for therapy directly affords you more privacy and more choices for how you get support with your anxiety.

Instead of being given a mandatory diagnosis and cut off after the 10 sessions your insurance is willing to approve, self-pay therapy allows you to better understand yourself on (and in!) your own terms.

A stack of boxed tarot decks and a cloche with a preserved butterfly.

Integrating Brainspotting, parts work, cultural wisdom, and your lived experiences for deep, lasting relief.

You could probably teach a masterclass on your own anxiety because insight has never been your problem. But as a high-functioning overthinker, knowing why you feel anxious rarely stops your body from reacting like there’s always some sort of emergency.

By weaving neurobiological tools like Brainspotting together with IFS parts work (while honoring your unique cultural, spiritual, and personal identity) we address your anxiety holistically, giving your body the space it needs to finally catch up to the healing your mind is ready for.
