My Approach to Grief Counseling

There is no one-size-fits all approach when it comes to grief and loss. Whether you’ve lost a parent, spouse, friend, or pet, each loss is unique.

The same can be said for losses that were not deaths. You may be here because you’ve lost a job, a friendship, a home, or something else all together.

Grief counseling exists to teach you about the reality of the grief process, which includes physical, emotional, social, and spiritual impacts. With a better understanding of how grief is effecting you personally, we’ll develop a plan for how to create a new baseline for your life.

I’ll also give you the space in grief counseling to practice talking about your experiences death of loss and what it means for your life. Talking about death and loss doesn’t have to be awkward. In counseling with me, you’ll see that it’s possible to talk about these topics in ways that feel natural, and maybe even casual.

No matter what kind of loss you’ve experienced, you can expect to be supported with empathy and compassion throughout grief counseling.

Grief Counseling FAQs

  • People who see me for grief counseling tend to have a few experiences in common. Some of them notice their grief is holding them back from engaging in other aspects of their life. Other notice that their grief is difficult to talk about with other people in their life, and they’re looking for a private environment to practice talking about their loss.

  • I absolutely can. Many people are surprised to learn that their grief is, in fact, normal. Whether you’re grieving a person, pet, friendship, or job—or something else all together— I can help you better understand what is normal during the grieving process.

  • I never require clients to share details they’re uncomfortable with. You can experience relief without disclosing details of your experience that may be sensitive.

Hi! I’m Halle, your Grief Counselor.

Hi! I’m Halle, a queer, biracial, African-American therapist in Longmont, CO who provides grief counseling in Longmont, Colorado and throughout the rest of the state as well. I’ve been to far more funerals than weddings and have seen firsthand the variety of ways that grief can impact all aspects of a person’s life.

I believe we live in a culture that doesn’t allow grieving people enough room to experience a wide range of emotions. You deserve so much better than that.  I want you to be able to free yourself from how you think you “should” be grieving.
